TORMENTED EGOS AND RITUALS OF SALVATION
مجموعة أعمال بعنوان الأنا المعذبة وطقوس الخلاص: رؤى مغايرة
"I was born a woman, a Muslim, a Palestinian. And so I found myself estranged, immigrant, refugee, searching for a belonging that would accept me."
These works begin where identity is imposed and end where it is reclaimed.
Created in ink, watercolour and collage in my personal journal, this series examines the elaborate machinery of control exerted on bodies — particularly female bodies — within the religious, cultural, social and political systems of the SWANA region. It asks: is the body simply a physical entity, or is it a canvas on which society inscribes meaning?
Each piece is a question. Each piece is also an answer.
My white paper on the body, religion and the inspiration behind this series was published in Telos Magazine — [read it here.]
This collection is for introspection and exhibition only. Artworks include original painting by the artist and collage elements from various magazines, copyrights to their respective owners.
