 The imagination, innovation and creativity

Stone design by Fadwa

Fadwa, a Palestinian, born in Libya and brought up in London, works essentially with beads – “precious beads, glass beads, wooden beads, plastic beads; any beads,” she said by way of explanation. And if she does not find the right beads, “I simply go ahead and make my own,” she revealed.

The jewelry world of Fadwa is a world filled with imagination, innovation and creativity. She has been in love with all forms of art & creativity since childhood. She feels that she interpret a picture and paint it with beads to create a piece of jewellery that can sing and dance.

She believes that energy bursting with everyone’s life is somehow woven into his very being, then there comes one bright sunny day, and all his experiences are reflected in the mirror of his being.

From UniqueArtGifts.com:

Oct. 2004

Excerpt from the interview:

My customers are usually amazed when they actually receive their piece, because they feel it comes to life in their hands, the pictures do not do them justice.

I make my pieces with such pleasure I want women to wear them with equal, if not more, pleasure. Our life is made up of small moments of happiness. My dream is that my pieces would bring those who wear them some moments of happiness.

The Working Woman

Saturday’s supplement to Al Iqtisadiya – Riyadh

12.6.2004 – issue no. 3897

“Every woman must free herself from international fashion dictatorship, learn more about herself and should wear what she feels suits her best.”

“My motivation also comes from the beauty of the stones themselves, my desire to create a piece that is something between an abstract piece of art & a piece of jewelry that will be worn by a woman, and mixing other crafts with the stones, in particular crochet, embroidery & macramé. I am greatly inspired by the feel of the stones, by their nature & their colors, shapes & sizes. In other words, it is my love for this art itself that pushes me forward.”

Jewelry designer in love with crystals & exotic beads.

Fadwa Al Qasem: Fashion should be a woman’s servant and not her master

  • Which stones do you use in your designs, where do your find these stones and do you face difficulties obtaining them?

All stones have a role to play within my designs, whether they are crystals, glass or semiprecious. What is important to me is obtaining beautiful, unusual stones of high quality and stunning colors. I obtain my stones from the UK, France, Italy, India, antique markets in Dubai and the UAE. I face difficulties at times in finding the exact color or shape I am looking for.

From Arabiyat.com:
2001

Excerpts from the interview:

"Q: Were you able to find elements to develop your talent? And did you study jewelry design, or do you depend on your talent?

A: I believe that everything we come across in life is stored in a treasure chest inside us. I collected beauty from life around me, art, music, literature and photography in this chest. I also collected knowledge about semiprecious stones, studied the history of beads and took several courses in jewelry design. Then, one day, I opened this chest, and found it brimming with inspiration.

Q: What advice do you give to women when choosing a piece of jewelry?

A: Do we not have enough advice & rules in this life? Choosing a piece of jewelry should a pleasure in itself. To all women I say: choose what you like, choose what suits you, then simply enjoy your choice!"

From Connector Magazine:

"Her specialization is for necklaces and chokers in particular, which she says, can add grace and elegance to any outfit."

"Fadwa has lived in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and North America, and this international exposure to a wide variety of cultures is expressed in her designs of beads and jewelry. The jewelry pieces are one-off or limited editions, and are made up of a selection of beads which best represent the theme which she is working on. Each necklace has been named and I was especially taken with those inspired by her holidays to Spain. 'The colors of the seas there are simply breathtaking', explained Fadwa, who has assembled a necklace called Moraira from iridescent turquoise, blue and green glass beads depicting these colors."

Weekend photo

From Weekend Magazine:

"Fadwa, who has lived in the UAE for the last one and a half years, says that a bead is 'a container for the culture, ideology and religion of people.' Its color, size, shape and material all have a meaning if you study the history of beads, says this talented and enterprising Canadian citizen of Palestinian origin, who has found an outlet for her creativity in designing exclusive chokers and earrings for the adventurous women of today. "

"Fadwa's beadwork is not just mere artistry, it has become a fashion statement for the bold women of today and even the not-so-bold, because, as she points out, anyone can wear a choker and look glamourous."
