I Am what i art
Confessions. Art Journaling. Art. Writing. Poetry. Play. And everything life in between.
Because writing is like dancing and I really love dancing. And because pages from my art journal sing when I fill them with words, marks and color.
I tried to keep things separate.
The contradiction that is life.
I am happy, so happy on a personal, very micro-level. I am so sad and angry on the macro-level. Walking this precarious tightrope between suicidal anger and euphorical, delerious happiness.
This is the world I live in. Fully aware how lucky I am that the latter always wins.
So I've been thinking about all this fuss about breast feeding in public, and why some or many - men and women - find it offensive.
Given that women's bodies are used to sell everything - from cars to the woman herself. And given that women, including myself, occasionally fall into the trap of fashion. And given that it has become normal, accepted and funny for men to share videos of various women's parts - a big ass in the airport, a guy running up to a woman and pulling her skirt up or down, a woman whose top bursts open "accidently" in the gym and exposes her boobs - it's candid camera, to dinner with a belly dance show, or strippers with a beer. It's normal. And women who get upset or offended are small minded. This is normal. men can't help themselves. As opposed to women who are completely asexual, of course.
So, why all the offense at a woman breast feeding in public? I think it's simply because breast feeding is not perceived as sexy. It is a reminder that these breasts also have a functional purpose.
Suddenly these breasts are not being used or exposed for a sexual purpose. Not for the pleasure of men. Or women. Because women, too, are reminded that their breasts feed babies!
The beautiful ideal of this creature existing purely for pleasure is gone.
These breasts feed babies.
All the sexiness melts away, and somehow that feels offensive.
The illusion is shattered. And there's no going back.
