Get Inspired!People are always asking me: where do you get your inspiration? My answer is always the same, anywhere, everywhere, from anything .. from everything. Inspiration is a frame of mind, once you accept that, everything around you looks new. It’s about continually re-inventing ways of seeing things, continually being astonished, amazed, surprised. Not quite like a child .. just like you yourself, who you are now, your experiences, your knowledge, your aspirations, taking in the details, inhaling them, being moved by them .. This month’s pieces are inspired by bits of broken glass. As I was driving one day, I saw a sea of shimmering topaz on the ground, like lots of little droplets which have fallen from the sky and somehow collected atop these desert sands. I just had to stop. I had my camera with me, as always, so I stopped and took loads of pictures. The sea of topaz was simply tiny pieces of broken glass left behind after a building was demolished. The shattered glass in the sunlight looked simply breathtaking! I was never good at drawing and I am still learning the art of photography which helps me record ideas and that which inspires me. I downloaded the photos, printed them, and stuck them on the walls of my studio. There they remained for months, until I found these amazing blue Topaz stones, and the inspiration for these pieces just screamed at me so loud I dropped everything and created them immediately in one long sitting. Such is the crazy wonderful world of getting and being inspired. It is no mystery, just open-up and let in. Picasso continued producing his masterpieces until he died at 91 … I am in no way comparing my work to his, but I hope to be able to compare my passion and enthusiasm .. and perhaps to live just as (productively) long! Enjoy …
