Precious Purple!

Royalty, spirituality, nobility, ceremony, mystery, transformation, wisdom, enlightenment, even cruelty, arrogance and mourning; welcome to the world of Purple!

Leonardo da Vinci believed in the power of purple light for meditation, while in Thailand women wear purple to mourn their dead husbands. Cleopatra is said to have loved this royal color, legend tells us that she had her servants soak 20,000 Purpura snails for days on end to obtain just an ounce of Tyrian purple dye.

Tyrian purple is a purple dye that was first made in the ancient Phoenician city of Tyre; hence the name. It was made from the secretions of various marine snails and it was very expensive! Aristotle assigned it a value ten to twenty times its weight in gold. This fast, non-fading dye became an item of luxury and was limited to the upper classes in Roman times and for the coloring of ceremonial robes. It is considered a color that distinguishes royalty and rank; purple hearts are given to soldiers wounded or killed in battle.

Purple is the marriage of two colors combining the spiritual understanding and empathy of blue with the passionate, sexual appetite of red.

Definitely not a color for the shy rose, purple is for the confident and the mature, those who know what they want from life, who have achieved a certain charisma, and who know the secret of wearing purple rather than letting purple wear them.

Purple walks with stature, like the iris, it is elegant, tall and stately. It is said that we are what you eat! Are we also what color we wear? I wonder. But do keep in mind; the iris comes in a rainbow of colors, and while amethyst is the most recognized purple stone, it also belongs to the quartz family which boasts many characteristics and a variety of colors!
