Who is Fadwa, anyway?

I believe in creativity and that everyone is creative. Who says your art has to be masterpieces for the Louvre? Who says you should only use a brush? I sometimes use my feet!
I’m just a woman with a restless soul and a gypsy’s spirit. I am what I am and I can’t be anything else. I write in both Arabic and English, I create art, I paint with my hands and my feet, I take pictures, I design jewelry, I dance – and sometimes I do all of these things together!
I have a B.A in English literature which I obtained from Schiller International University in the UK. I am the author of two collections of short stories in Arabic (The Scent of Cardamom 2005 and The Moment of Leaving Heaven 2011 – which includes pages from my art journals as well as my writings). My stories have been published in numerous Arabic journals, and my English stories have been published in Banipal and as part of two anthologies, one in the UK and the other in the USA.
My journal pages were published as part of my second book – a somewhat novel idea in the world of Arabic book publishing. The book was very well received. I have held several art journaling courses in Dubai (at Wafi Pharaohs Club) to unlock the creative powers within everyone who attends my course. Having been exposed to the diversified cultures of North Africa, Europe, North America and the Middle East, marrying East and West, my jewelry pieces are an expression of the beauty experienced and seen in the women and cultures of these exotic places. They are shrouded in femininity and mystery; yet they are bold, confident, and independent, like the women who will wear them.who came in thinking they could never create a single artistic page.
My specialty is original chokers. My concept: to paint with beads. Using semi-precious stones, Venetian style hand painted glass beads, beautiful lamp beads, faceted crystals, and other beads specially designed for me, I create one-of-a-kind or limited edition jewelry pieces.
After spending considerable time studying beads and their fascinating history, I discovered that the glass beads have a background no less auspicious than that of diamonds, pearls, and semi-precious stones. Each bead is a miniature container holding the secrets of the culture that made it, traded it, and wore it. Drawing inspiration from this fascinating discovery, and from many other pleasures in life; magical childhood experiences created by my mother, the tapestry of colors in my father’s tenderly cared for garden, the marvelous hues of blue and green of the sea in Spain, exotic cultures, dreams and fantasy, I design individual chokers that each have a name, a character, and a story…
